Major Projects
With over 30 years in the Urban environment and more than 15 years in the Inter Urban market, Peek is and has been involved in a vast number of major projects across the highway infrastructure.
National Roads Telecommunication Services (NRTS)
In September 2005 Peek commenced its largest project to date; the Highways Agency (HA) NRTS project. This is a 10.5 year Public Private Partnership (PPP) contract covering the HA road network and involves:
- Taking over and upgrading the existing communications infrastructure
- Maintenance of the Communications Network
- Fault response, diagnostics and rectification
- Installation, Testing and Commissioning of Communications Equipment and Cabling
Peek is a performance partner to the GeneSYS Consortium led by Fluor. We provide field force which operates on the NRTS project. Our responsibilities include active and passive maintenance, fault rectification and upgrade and installation services on behalf of Fluor and Alcatel-Lucent.
M6 Regrade Project (J32-J37)
In 2011 Peek completed its first Major Infrastructure Scheme which involved the installation and commissioning of approximately 62.5 km of fully ducted infrastructure; comprising four-way Ducting, Cabinet Sites, Vehicle Restraint Systems, Copper and Fibre Optic Cabling and jointing. Transmission Stations and associated power works. All works were installed under Traffic Management planned and co-ordinated by Peek in its role as Principal Contractor.
Managed Motorways
The Automobile Association lists Managed Motorways amongst the top ten key developments in the entire history of the UK motorway system.
One of the most important challenges for the Highways Agency is the management of Britain’s motorways to improve traffic flows, reduce congestion, cut travel times and maintain better local air quality. But as traffic volumes increase, the Agency is constantly looking for more economical, effective and sustainable methods of managing the country’s motorways.
In 2005, it devised an Active Traffic Management scheme (now called Managed Motorway schemes), a pilot of which was introduced on the M42 (between junctions 3a and 7) in 2006; Peek and its state of the art traffic management solutions played a major role in the pilot scheme and continue to deliver under the wider roll out.
